Nuggets and chips

Or fries, potato, potato: whatever you call it, it is very easy to make yourself! I used the oven for these fries instead of the fryer.

Ingredients (for 3 portions)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Peel the potatoes and cut into fries. Rinse them with cold water in a colander and drain well. Spread over a clean towel and put another towel on top. Rub the fries as dry as possible and put them in a bowl. Add a dash of oil and mix. Add the salt and the flower and mix well, so everything is evenly covered. Divide the fries over a with baking paper covered baking tray, make sure there is enough space between the fries and they are not on top of each other. Bake for 20 minutes in the oven. Turn the fries and bake for another 20 minutes until golden and crispy. In the meantime, bake the nuggets until golden in oil or butter (turn frequently), this takes up to 4 minutes. You can also bake them in the oven (9 minutes at 185 degrees).

Apple sauce

Apple sauce is so much better when you make it yourself! It is not hard at all and the advantadge of making it yourself is that you can decide how sweet you would like it and if you want a more coarse or smooth texture (like the ones in the supermarket).

Ingredients (for a full jar)

  • 1 kilogram apples
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 100 ml. water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 to 2 tsp cinnamon

Peel the apples and cut into quarters. Discard the clock houses and cut into bite sized pieces. Put the pieces in a big pan together with the water, lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon and bring to the boil. Lower the heat and put the lid on edgewise and let cook for fifteen minutes. Let the pieces cool down a bit and puree with a hand blender until the desired thickness. Keep the apple sauce in a well closed jar in the fridge.
